Big 12 Basketball Power Rankings

Alright, another week and another set of power rankings.

Oklahoma (19-1, 5-0) -The Sooners survived a semi scare against Nebraska on Wednesday but shot the lights out the gym on Saturday versus Baylor to keep that top spot in the rankings. Blake Griffin has locked up Big 12 player of the year and maybe National Player of the year with two games this past week of 20+ points and 15+ rebounds.

Kansas (15-4, 4-0) -The Jayhawks won both their games last week to stay a half game behind in the Sooners in the standings but they are a distant second in my power rankings. KU's four conference wins have came against four of the bottom five teams in the Big 12. KU's will benefit big time from getting to play against the "North" twice.

Texas (14-4, 3-1) -Texas has looked strong in the two games since their loss to OU. Yes those games were against Texas Tech and Texas A&M, but Texas has really stepped it up on the defensive end of the floor. Damion James played like a man possessed last week and if he continues that, Texas will be even more dangerous than they already are.

Missouri (17-3, 4-1) -Missouri has been the surprise team of the Big 12 this year. Missouri also has adopted the Phoenix Suns style of basketball by posting back to back 97 point games against Oklahoma St. and Texas Tech while giving up 95 and 86 points respectively. Mizzou blew a 20 point lead and almost lost the Oklahoma St. game last week but Missouri is probably the most dangerous offensive team in the Big 12.

Baylor (15-4, 3-2) - The Bears split their two road games last week against Kansas St. and Oklahoma. Curtis Jerrells is an NBA quality guard and it showed last week as he put up 44 points in the two games but the Bears lack of any inside presance will be their downfall this season.

Oklahoma St. (13-5, 2-2) - The Cowboys lost a tough one at home to Missouri but showed a lot to me in fighting back to get to a point where they could have won that Missouri game. They followed that up with a big road win against Nebraska in OT. Travis Ford has these guys playing at a high pace with lots of shots and not a lot of defense. The Cowboys have a tough week this week with a home game vs. the Sooners and road game in College Station.

Nebraska (12-6, 2-3) - The Huskers had a tough week against the two Oklahoma schools. They played a great game in Norman on Wednesday but then dropped a tough one at home Saturday. Nebraska is a decent big man away from being a very good team.

Iowa St. (12-7, 1-3) - The Cyclones pushed Kansas as best as any Big 12 team has so far this season but still lost by 15. Craig Brackins went off for 42 points and 14 rebounds against the Jayhawks but it wasn't enough. Brackins currently has the two highest scoring outputs by a Big 12 player this season.

Texas A&M (15-5, 1-4) - This may be harsh by putting the Aggies so low since they have had the toughest stretch to start Big 12 play in recent memory. The Aggies really don't get a break until the end of Febuary but by then it might be too late to salvage the season.

Texas Tech (11-8, 1-3) - Really Tech and Kansas State are the same not very good team. Neither has a big time player or a big time win this season but since Tech beat Colorado by 8 and Kansas State beat Colorado by 2 in OT, Tech goes here.

Kansas St. (12-7, 1-4) - Read above.

Colorado (8-10, 0-4) -Colorado is really struggling this year. They have started to look more competitive in recent games but they are clearly at the bottom of the barrel.

Tuesday: #15 Texas at #23 Baylor 8:00pm
Saturday: #23 Baylor at Missouri 5:00pm
