The ACC stands for the Atlantic Coast Conference. It is one of the oldest collegiate conferences in the USA. It was founded in 1953 and comprises twelve universities. The athletics teams compete in twenty various sports in the NCAA (the National Collegiate Athletics Association) Division I.
The history of the Atlantic Coast Conference basketball began mainly thanks to Everett Case and Frank McGuire. Everett Case was the coach of the North Carolina State basketball team. In fact his career turned out to be very successful. At that time the university was focusing its strength on competing in football program, mainly with its major rival Duke University. Case started winning many basketball games and thus drew attention to the university basketball team. The head coach set several records and is highly valued by his colleagues. Some of his records are still relevant today.
